Celebrating 30 Years of PlayStation: The Anniversary Collection
PlayStation is commemorating three decades of gaming excellence with the launch of the PlayStation Anniversary Collection, which includes a nostalgic special edition PlayStation 5. It has been 30 years since Sony first introduced the PlayStation console in December 1994, a milestone that marked the beginning of a legacy that has seen the release of five generations of consoles, with various upgrades and editions along the way. The PlayStation 5 is the latest in this line of groundbreaking gaming systems.
The 30th Anniversary Collection
In honor of this significant anniversary, PlayStation is releasing a limited edition 30th Anniversary Collection. This collection features both digital and disc console bundles, specifically the PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle. These can be pre-ordered later this month. The special editions pay tribute to the original gray PlayStation design, complete with the iconic colorful PS logo and a matching DualSense controller.
On the PlayStation Blog, Hideaki Nishino expressed gratitude, stating: “The new limited edition designs pay homage to 30 wonderful years of gaming, a journey made possible by the passion and support of our fans and talented game developers.”
What’s Inside the PS5 30th Anniversary Bundles?
Pre-Orders Begin Soon
According to the PlayStation Blog, the PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle includes a variety of nostalgic and useful items: an “original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing, four PlayStation Shapes cable ties, a PlayStation sticker, and a Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs), as well as a PlayStation Paperclip.”
The core of the bundle is the PS5 Pro console, which boasts a 2TB SSD. It also comes with a DualSense wireless controller, a DualSense Edge wireless controller, a DualSense Charging Station, a Console Cover for a Disc Drive (note that the Disc Drive is sold separately), and a Vertical Stand. This comprehensive collection will be available from November 21, with only 12,300 units up for grabs.
The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle mirrors the Pro Console bundle but omits the DualSense Edge wireless controller and the DualSense Charging Station.
For those who already own a PS5 or aren’t interested in a new console purchase, standalone limited-edition items such as DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers and a PlayStation Portal Remote Player are available. While these don’t include the exclusive goodies found in the bundles, they offer a piece of the anniversary celebration for existing PS5 owners.
PlayStation Fans Seem To Hate The PS5 Pro, But Its Disc Drive Tells A Different Story
The PlayStation 5 Pro bundle, PlayStation Portal Remote Player, and DualSense Edge Wireless Controller are available for pre-order on PlayStation Direct beginning September 26. Gamers in areas without PlayStation Direct access can place pre-orders at participating local retailers on the same date. Meanwhile, the PS5 Digital Edition bundle will be open for pre-orders at select retailers starting October 10.
This limited window provides long-time PlayStation enthusiasts a chance to capture the nostalgia of the original console while embracing the latest technology. For those considering an upgrade to the PS5 Pro, these anniversary items offer a perfect blend of homage and innovation. As of now, the pricing details of these exclusive anniversary items remain undisclosed, but more information is expected as the release date approaches.
